Network Switch Software Maintenance - Security Patching

What is being done?
Network switches are having the latest software installed, to patch a security vulnerability identified by the vendor.

When is it being done?
The change window is 19:00 on Saturday, 25th October 2025 until 06:00 on Monday, 27th October 2025. Software updates are being installed between 19:00 and 06:00 each night.

Who will this affect?
The software update is being applied to all network ‘Spine’ and ‘Leaf’ switches, so the university’s wired and wireless networks should be considered ‘at risk’ overnight during the change period.

How will this affect service users?
Most of the network is resilient; therefore, users should not notice any network outages. There are however a small number of locations where the network will be offline at some point during the change window. The following locations will experience a network loss for up to 20 minutes between the hours of 19:00 and 06:00 during one of the days.
